Jeremy Pruitt, the defensive coordinator of the Georgia Bulldogs, is reportedly ‘highly interested’ in the head coaching job with South Carolina.

According to J.C. Shurburtt of Dawgs 24/7, University of Georgia defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt is “highly interested” in the head coaching gig at the University of South Carolina. Pruitt, who has been the defensive coordinator at Georgia since 2014, has helped keep the Dawgs in position to win 10 games in 2015, despite having a massively underwhelming offense since the Nick Chubb injury.

Sources close to Pruitt and the Georgia program have indicated that friction between former head coach Mark Richt is not only untrue, but Richt actually endorses Pruitt as a viable head coaching candidate.

Dawg Nation has loved the work Jeremy Pruitt has done for the program on the defensive side of the ball since coming to Athens via Tallahassee, where he was the defensive coordinator for Florida State’s 2013 BCS National Championship team.

Pruitt stems from the Nick Saban coaching tree, having served as a defensive backs coach on two of Saban’s three national title teams while at the University of Alabama. The 41-year-old defensive coordinator is rapidly developing a reputation as a great on-field teacher, tactician, and marvelous recruiter. He could stand as the big name South Carolina would want to replace the program’s most successful coach ever, Steve Spurrier, who promptly retired before the Vanderbilt game.

South Carolina seems like they are on the verge of wrapping up their head coaching search, as they have had a vacancy for over a month now. Losing Pruitt to South Carolina would be absolutely devastating for the Georgia Bulldogs football program.

The thought of not having Mark Richt and Jeremy Pruitt next season seems like a harsh, but readily possible reality for the Bulldogs.
