The Orioles have acquired Mark Trumbo from the Mariners.

The Seattle Mariners and Baltimore Orioles have come to terms on a deal that will send first baseman Mark Trumbo to the Mariners in exchange for catcher Steve Clevenger and a second player to be named.

Trumbo, whom was a candidate to be non-tendered by Seattle, was reportedly being heavily shopped in the past week by general manager Jerry DiPoto, as he overhauls his newly received roster in his first off-season as Mariners GM. For Baltimore, Trumbo offers insurance at first base in the event free agent first baseman Chris Davis departs this winter. Trumbo is also capable of filling in at left field if needed, but is best deployed as a designated hitter.

Trumbo’s arbitration figures to come in at close to $9 million next year. 2016 is his final season of team control before becoming a true free agent after the year.

This deal marks the second time Trumbo has been dealt during the calendar year, having been previously dealt from Arizona to Seattle last June. On the year between the two clubs, Trumbo hit .262/.310/.449 split, with 22 home runs and 64 RBI. In his career, he has two seasons of 30+ homers and will likely fit in well within the confines of Camden Yard.

The Mariners will receive Clevenger, who hit .287 in 30 games behind the plate for the Orioles last year, but is a .228 career hitter. Also up for arbitration, it is likely Seattle does not tender him a deal, as they have Mike Zunino and Chris Iannetta slated to be their battery next year already.
