Johnny Manziel led the way for the Browns to pick up their third win of they year against the 49ers

53. 10. 42. Final. 24

The Cleveland Browns and the San Francisco 49ers met up at FirstEnergy Stadium on Sunday in Week 14 with the two teams having just six combined wins coming into the contest. However, the game was always going to be about two things: the effects on the 2016 NFL Draft and how Johnny Manziel would fare in his return to the starting quarterback position.

Things started off sloppy in this game on both sides of the ball. The Browns turned the ball over, including a Johnny Football interception that was quite ugly, but the 49ers offense looked incapable of putting any semblance of a drive together. An Isaiah Crowell score was the only touchdown of the first half for either team, but out of the half with the score at 10-3, Manziel and Cleveland got things rolling.

Manziel looked impressive as the Browns quarterback, showing a solid rapport with both Brian Hartline and Gary Barnidge and with Crowell moving the ball on the ground. After a handful of impressive drives, the Browns jumped out to a big lead. Their defense continued to terrorize Blaine Gabbert and the Niners offense and the Browns were able to pick up their third win of the 2015 season.

Three stars

Johnny Manziel, despite the bad first-half interception, again looked quite good. He went 21-31 for 270 yards, a touchdown, and the pick on the afternoon in the victory.

Isaiah Crowell was a nice surprise for Cleveland this game as he put forth a masterful rushing attack. He took 20 carries for 145 yards and two touchdowns on the day, also adding a nine-yard reception to his day.

The Browns defense just terrorized Blaine Gabbet all day long with the pass-rush. As a unit, they finished the day with just a remarkable nine sacks in addition to holding San Francisco to only 10 points.

Highlights

Odds

The Browns were 1.5-point favorites in this game, which they covered with the win. The two teams fell well short of the 41.5-point O/U line.

Next Week

The 49ers will have an exceptionally tough matchup next week at home as they welcome the Cincinnati Bengals to town.

Cleveland has a tough matchup of their own as they’ll travel to the northwest for a matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.
