Even with a sputtering offense and an inconsistent defense, the Green Bay Packers have the postseason pedigree to win Super Bowl 50.

The Packers are a real oddity this season. If someone had told you back in September that a Mike McCarthy-coached team with a healthy Aaron Rodgers under center would enter the playoffs with only the ninth best odds at winning the Super Bowl out of 12 playoff teams, you would have called them crazy.

Today’s NFL is, after all, a league built on the quarterback. And this is, after all, supposedly the best quarterback in the NFL today.

But entering Wild Card weekend, Vegas oddsmakers are giving upstarts like Alex Smith’s Kansas City Chiefs and AJ McCarron’s Cincinnati Bengals a better chance to make and win the big game than the Packers. That’s right, AJ McCarron —a backup QB— is being called a better bet to win Super Bowl 50 than Aaron freakin’ Rodgers.

Of course, football is a team sport, and the Packers as a team haven’t inspired a lot of confidence down the stretch this season. After winning their first six games, Green Bay went 4-6 the rest of the way, losing against three NFC teams they could very well face again in the coming weeks. And a 38-8 bludgeoning in Arizona less than two weeks ago doesn’t bode well for a potential rematch, should Green Bay manage to slip past the pesky Redskins this Sunday.

Still, this is a team that knows how to get it done when it counts, and there are five good reasons the Packers could beat the odds and make an improbable run at the championship.
