Outfielder Josh Reddick is open to a multi-year extension with the Oakland Athletics

The Oakland Athletics are currently rebuilding after a 68-94 record during the 2015 MLB season. They have been trying to get outfielder Josh Reddick to discuss a multi-year extension with them but Reddick has not been willing. It seems that he is now willing to discuss that extension with the Athletics now that arbitration has passed.

Reddick had a .272 batting average with a .333 on-base percentage and a .449 slugging percentage last season for the Athletics. He played in 149 games and had 143 hits. 45 of them were for extra bases with 25 doubles and 20 homers. He had 77 RBIs and scored 67 runs while stealing 10 bases. His .781 OPS was the highest of his career in a full season. He only grounded into seven double plays and only struck out 65 times despite having 526 at bats.

Josh Reddick will be turning 29 in February so it would be a smart idea for the Athletics to lock him up for at least the next three to four seasons if they can do so at a reasonable price. Reddick is arguably the Athletics best hitter and if Oakland’s going to contend any time soon, Reddick will more than likely have to be a part of it.

Reddick is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2016 MLB season so the Athletics will have to pay him something close to market value to keep him. He will be getting paid $6,575,000 this season after agreeing with the Athletics to avoid the arbitration process.
