Jonathan Toews not likely to participate in NHL All Star game due to injury
Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews is not likely to participate in the NHL All Star game after suffering an injury in the third period against the Hurricanes
The NHL All Star game is happening this weekend in Nashville. Most of the biggest stars in the NHL will be there. One star who likely won’t participate and might not even attend is Chicago Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews. Toews suffered an injury in the third period against the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.
Toews will have to miss the Blackhawks’ next game after the All-Star break due to the NHL rules which dictate that players can’t miss the All Star game unless it’s due to an injury. Toews likely doesn’t want to risk suffering an even worse injury during a glorified exhibition game. The Blackhawks especially don’t want that to happen, so it would be a pretty huge surprise if Toews participates. He’ll likely miss it just to be safe.
Jonathan Toews has 19 goals and 16 assists for 35 points through 53 games this season. He averages just under 20 minutes of ice time per game. The Blackhawks cannot afford to lose Toews because he’s a productive center despite often playing against his opponents’ best players. He’s a constant Selke Trophy candidate and has a 58.3 percent faceoff win percentage this season.
Look for Nashville Predators forward Filip Forsberg or Jets forward Andrew Ladd to replace Toews. Considering this is fairly short notice and the game is in Nashville, Forsberg is the most likely option.
