Celtics president Danny Ainge said that he’s willing to deal the Nets 2016 first-round pick in the right trade

The Boston Celtics have been popping up in seemingly every big trade rumor with the NBA Trade Deadline looming less than two weeks away. They’ve been linked to names like Dwight Howard and Danilo Gallinari in recent days and plenty of others over the past few weeks. If the right deal is there, the Celtics and president of basketball operations Danny Ainge would be more than willing to offer arguably their greatest asset.

On Friday, WEEI in Boston spoke to Ainge and asked him if the Celtics would be willing to part with the Brooklyn Nets‘ 2016 first-round pick at the deadline. Ainge replied by saying that, if the right trade were to surface, the organization would indeed move the Nets pick. Ainge added that the team isn’t actively trying to move the pick, but if it’s what it took to bring the right player to Boston, then they would be fine parting with it.

Ainge actually went quite in depth on what it would take to acquire the Brooklyn pick, saying that they likely wouldn’t make a deal involving the pick unless it was for a young player that the Celtics valued a great deal. He added that the chance that owning the pick brings Boston of landing a top-pick and high-quality young player in the draft inherently gives the pick a ton of value.

Unless there’s a blockbuster deal for one of the biggest names out there on the trade market going to the Celtics, don’t expect the Brooklyn pick to be on the move. However, if that type of deal does come to light, Ainge and the Celtics won’t hesitate to include the pick to get the deal done.
