Hassan Whiteside had one of the craziest blocks you’ll ever see against the Hornets on Friday night

Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside is one of the most divisive figures among NBA fans right now. While he puts up some of the most impressive stats of any player in the league, there are those that say that he’s not wholly valuable to the team and that his stats are somewhat meaningless. However, there’s no denying his physical gifts and his talent, which the Charlotte Hornets learned in an emphatic manner on Friday night.

In the fourth quarter of a tight game, Hornets forward Marvin Williams tried to drive into the lane to tie the game back up for Charlotte. However, Whiteside was there waiting for the block at the rim. He didn’t just block Williams, though; he rose up and actually palmed the ball out of the air off the shot attempt before hitting an outlet for a fast break:

You’ll sometimes see a big man come down with a big two-handed block where he plucks it out of the air, but what Hassan Whiteside did here was just savage. You don’t see players snatching shots out of the air with one hand and then maintaining control. That just doesn’t sound or look like a thing that’s either fair or possible.

Though you can argue about his actual value, you can’t argue with plays like this from Hassan Whiteside. Moreover, he also posted a points-rebounds-blocks triple-double on Friday night, which is impressive regardless of if it’s important to the Heat’s success or not.
