Amidst Johnny Manziel’s ongoing off-field troubles, Charlie Sheen has become an unlikely voice of reason

The latest incident surrounding Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has everyone fearing the worst for the 23-year-old. After countless trials with partying and an instance of apparent domestic violence, this latest incident has Manziel under criminal investigation from the Dallas Police Department regarding another domestic violence case where he is the named suspect in the investigation.

Regardless of what happens to Manziel in a legal sense, though, it’s becoming increasingly clear that Manziel is in desperate need of help in his life. With his own father recently saying that he fears that his son won’t make it to see his 24th birthday if he continues this way and with reports that Manziel has refused rehab twice in the past week, the situation is looking more an more dire for the former Texas A&M quarterback.

In light of this, an unlikely source of reason has emerged: Charlie Sheen. The once prominent actor turned pop culture punch-line who recently announced that he is HIV positive took to Twitter to offer some shockingly poignant words of wisdom Manziel about change and hope:

Though I’m not sure that football should be a concern of Manziel in the slightest at this point, Sheen’s advice on refocusing his energy on his health and then noting that it’s never too late to start fresh is certainly some advice that Manziel should take to heart. Moreover, the source of such words makes it even more of a poignant statement to the Browns quarterback given Sheen’s harrowing tales from off the screen of film and television.

Whether or not Manziel changes anytime soon remains to be seen at this point, as does how his current legal situation will ultimately play out. Though no one ever thought this would be a thing worth saying, perhaps Johnny should take Sheen’s words to heart and look at this as the moment he refocuses himself and starts anew.
