Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay says the Andrew Luck contract will be shocking.

The Colts have another year to work with quarterback Andrew Luck on his contract. After being drafted with the top pick in 2012, Luck has been terrific in guiding Indianapolis to three consecutive playoff appearances before getting hurt and watching the team flame out in 2015.

In 2016, Luck will be playing on his option and then is slated to hit unrestricted free agency. Barring some kind of horrific blunder by the team, Luck will never see free agency, something that owner Jim Irsday recently talked about on WISH-TV, per NFL.com. Irsay knows he will need to pony up a significant amount of cash to make a deal happen, and he appears ready to do so.

"“It’s going to be a big number,” Irsay told WISH-TV, via the team’s official site. “It’s going to be a shocking number, nine figures and probably a $20 million starting point per year, but again we will find the right number to get to.”"

There is no question that Luck is a tremendous talent. However, the team has not been able to reach a Super Bowl due to a bad supporting cast. While the position players around him are talented in T.Y. Hilton, Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen, the defense has been miserable and the offensive line a sieve.

Considering some of the top-paid quarterbacks are getting $20 million per year, look for Luck to be around $23-24 million.
