Mets’ Jenrry Mejia permanently suspended by MLB for third performance-enhancing violation

Mets reliever Jenrry Mejia has been permanently banned by the MLB for his third performance-enhancing substance violation.

The career of New York Mets reliever Jenrry Mejia is over at 26 years old. On Friday, Major League Baseball announced that they were giving Mejia a permanent ban for his third performance-enhancing substance violation.

Mejia had just been suspended the year prior for his second violation of league rules, but he clearly didn’t learn from his previous two violations and now he will never throw another baseball in the MLB ever again.

Over the last decade, the MLB has been doing everything in their power to stiffen the penalty for violating their league substance abuse policy and now they are hitting Mejia hard.

Mejia injured his elbow toward the beginning of the 2015 season before the league officially suspended him for his second violation. At the time, it was believed to be a big blow for the Mets, as they looked to find a steady closer at the back end of the bullpen.

The Mets would subsequently go on a World Series run as a team and it was as if Mejia was never there. It’s a sad story to see someone throw their career away at such a young age, but Mejia’s issues with performance-enhancing substances were clearly noted.

Perhaps he can find himself a new home in another league around the world, but at this point, the dream of being able to pitch in the MLB is over for him.
