Sunderland’s Adam Johnson admits child sex charge
Sunderland winger and England international Adam Johnson has pleaded guilty to accusations of sexual activity with a child.
This is a sad day for the world of soccer. In recent years there have been some high profile cases of pedophilia. Such crimes have now entered the realms of the Premier League via Sunderland’s Adam Johnson. The winger, who has 12 caps for England, has pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with an underage girl and will now face court proceedings to determine his fate. He has also admitted guilt to one charge of grooming.
Johnson was arrested in March 2015, and after Sunderland initially banned him due to such accusations, the club lifted the ban after talks with the player and his representatives. However, in light of recent events, the winger was omitted from the squad to face Manchester United on Saturday and has since been sacked by both the club and Adidas.
Johnson is also under question for two more charges of sexual activity with a child which he has denied, and that case is currently being evaluated in court. What the result of such disgusting behavior remains to be seen. However, it is likely that is football career is over and he could face prison time.
Bradford Crown Court has heard evidence of repeated text messages between Johnson and 15-year-old girl. The messages involve a clear suggestion to sexual activity, including the line “just want to get your jeans off” and ” I will last 10 seconds tho lol.” More evidence will come to light as court sessions progress, however, he has already pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with a child and is now under question for another two, including penetration. A very sad day for soccer indeed.
