With the NBA Trade Deadline rapidly approaching, there are plenty of NBA rumors circulating about various players and teams.

One of the teams that are a seller at the trade deadline is the Minnesota Timberwolves. In recent years, the Timberwolves have added some nice young pieces, but they still have work to do before they are a contender.

With teams in need of a scorer, Timberwolves’ shooting guard Kevin Martin has emerged as a popular name that teams are interested in.

One team that is interested in adding Martin is the Dallas Mavericks, who currently sit in sixth place in the Western Conference.

According to Tim MacMahon, the Mavericks don’t have any desire to trade for Martin and his expensive contract, but would rather wait until his contract was possibly bought out by the Timberwolves.

Martin is now 33-years-old, and on the downside if his career, but he has also been an excellent scorer in the NBA and could be a difference maker for a team like the Mavericks down the stretch.

In his career, Martin has averaged 20 points per game six times and did it as recently as last season. With talented young players like Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine, minutes have been hard to come by for Martin, and the Timberwolves would love to give as much time as they can to their young players.

This season, Martin is averaging 11.3 points per game in just 22.6 minutes, which would certainly be a boost for the Mavericks’ bench down the stretch.

While trading for Martin doesn’t make much sense for the Mavericks, if they are able to get him after a buyout, he would be a useful piece for the rest of the season. The Timberwolves will have a very difficult time finding a trade partner for Martin, as he appears to be a perfect candidate to have his contract bought out.
