The Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons have gotten the NBA Trade Deadline ball rolling with a Tobias Harris trade

The Orlando Magic have figured to be big movers at the 2016 NBA Trade Deadline for quite some time with numerous players throughout their roster being rumored to be available in the right deal. Apparently they have found at least one right deal as forward Tobias Harris is reportedly being traded to the Detroit Pistons.

According to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports, the Pistons and Magic are finalizing a trade that will send Harris to the Pistons in exchange for point guard Brandon Jennings and veteran power forward Ersan Ilyasova:

Moreover, Sam Amick of USA Today Sports is reporting that there are no additional players or picks involved in the trade:

Harris signed a four-year $64 million contract with the Magic this past offseason, but the Magic are quite clearly looking to shake things up in a big way by adding a more veteran presence at forward in Ilyasova and adding more offense to their backcourt in Jennings. Moreover, it gets a large contract off the books coming into what figures to be a hectic 2016 free agency period.

For the Pistons, this move only further plays into the long-term plans of Stan Van Gundy. He loves versatility and the ability to score from the perimeter in his forwards and Harris has shown that he’s capable of that and still has a ton of upside as a young player.

Though this somewhat hinges on what else the Magic have in store, this trade looks good for both teams. Harris could really make the Pistons even more dangerous than they’ve been already in the Eastern Conference. Both teams could have more work to do, but Detroit has unloaded Jennings like they wanted and picked up an asset in the process. For the Magic, they now have more flexibility in terms of their financial situation and should be able to restructure their roster from here.
