When it comes to the 2016 NCAA Tournament, the eyes of many college basketball fans will largely just be on the bigger programs around the country. However, what makes March Madness great are the mid-majors that are ready to topple a giant and make a run in the Big Dance. One of those types of teams with the potential for a Cinderella run would have to be whichever teams earns the auto-bid out of the 2016 Mountain West Tournament.

The Mountain West Tournament will get underway on Wednesday, March 9 with the top-5 seeds in the conference getting a bye to the quarterfinals. That will leave the No. 8 Wyoming Cowboys to face the No. 9 Utah State Aggies, the No. 7 UNLV Rebels to square off with the No. 10 Air Force Falcons, and the No. 6 New Mexico Lobos to match up with the No. 11 San Jose State Spartans.

As for the top-5 seeds, though, you’d have to say that the favorites to win the Mountain West Tournament are among those five teams. Though the No. 2 Fresno State Bulldogs and No. 3 Boise State Broncos have the talent to win the automatic bid, the favorites are without question the No. 1 San Diego State Aztecs who went 16-2 in the conference in the regular season.
