Brandon Marshall fine with either Geno Smith, Bryce Petty as Jets QB

Brandon Marshall doesn’t seem torn up about Ryan Fitzpatrick possibly not re-signing with the New York Jets, as Geno Smith or Bryce Petty will do just fine.

New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall may end up losing a solid starting quarterback to throw him the ball if free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick doesn’t end up re-signing with the AFC East team that is on the verge of playoff contention.

Marshall told the New York Post on Tuesday that he thinks the Jets will do just fine with either Geno Smith or Bryce Petty as their starting quarterback in 2016. He said, “Just seeing Bryce and Geno grow so much the last year is really encouraging, and I’m just so proud of those guys. We’ll be OK.”

New York should be at least a .500 caliber team in 2016, as the Jets have a fantastic defense under head coach Todd Bowles and a creative offensive mind in offensive coordinator Chan Gailey drawing up plays for Marshall and fellow wideout Eric Decker to get open.

Remember that Smith was initially slated to be the starting quarterback for the Jets during training camp before injuring himself in a stupid scuffle with a teammate. Petty showed promise as a passer starring for Art Briles’ Baylor Bears in the Big 12, but still remains very much a work in progress as a pro-style passer.

An elite wideout tandem, a strong defense-first football team, and an offensive coordinator that always seems to have success are three big reasons the Jets could find themselves in the AFC Playoffs in 2016. Should the Jets also be able to run the football well this fall, don’t be surprised if either Smith or Petty can game manage the Jets offense well enough to get New York back into the AFC Playoffs for the first time in several seasons.
