Chargers may give the Raiders some competition in move to Las Vegas.

The Oakland Raiders moving to Las Vegas has gained some serious momentum. Team owner Mark Davis has already pledged to commit $500 million of his own money to build a new stadium in Sin City and one of the most influential owners in the NFL, Jerry Jones, recently publicly supported the move calling Las Vegas a “crown jewel”.

The perceived stigma around both gambling and the city has seemingly worn off and it appears the birth of the Las Vegas Raiders is just a year away. However, the Raiders are not the only organization interested in a move to southern Nevada.

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman went on the Dan Patrick Show and revealed that the San Diego Chargers share a similar interest saying, “I know they are absolutely looking to move. So that’s another place to go.”

Mayor Goodman even went as far as saying “I would love that” when discussing the Chargers and acknowledged that she and her husband have been season ticket holders of the Bolts for nearly 30 years and the Spanos family already has a relationship with the city.

After deciding to stay in San Diego, but agreeing to a deal to share a stadium with the Los Angeles Rams in the future, the Chargers now look like a desperate high schooler trying not to be left without a date for the prom. With this new revelation, the current local fan base may not be too supportive of their extremely flighty team this season, thus expediting the process.

These two organizations appear to be locked in another relocation battle after both competed against and lost to the Rams with regard to Los Angeles. However, if the Raiders can’t get a deal done quickly in Vegas, the Chargers are lurking right behind them and seem to have inside track to the mayor’s heart.
