Could Jeremy Lin make his return to the New York Knicks after he left in 2011-12?

NBA fans all over the world remember when the Knicks signed an undrafted point guard out of Harvard and that point guard turned into the most exciting player in the league. Lin averaged 14.6 points and 6.2 assists per game for the Knicks during the 2011-2012 season. With the Knicks in need of a point guard, Lin could find himself back in front of that MSG crowd in no time, according to CBS Sports.

Lin has moved around the league the past few seasons, spending two in Houston, one with the Lakers and this most recent in Charlotte. Lin averaged 11.7 points and 3.0 assists per game this season which ended with a Game 7 loss in the first round to the Miami Heat.

With the Knicks hiring Jeff Hornacek as the team’s new coach, they may be transitioning into a more spread offense instead of the triangle system that Phil Jackson likes to run. Lin is familiar with the spread offense and can be the up-tempo guard the team needs. Names like Kings’ guard Rajon Rondo and Grizzlies’ guard Mike Conley Jr. have been thrown around, but are unlikely.

The Knicks still have Jose Calderon under contract for one more year and first round draft pick Jerian Grant on the bench, but with neither of them making a case to be a consistent producer, the team will be looking for a new guy to run the show.

With Carmelo Anthony not going anywhere and Kristaps Porzingis, who quickly turned into a rookie sensation, the Knicks know they need a guy who can handle the ball and get it to the stars in good position to score. If these factors ring true, than Jeremy Lin and the Knicks could be destined for Linsanity 2.0.
