Recent NFL Rumors have been about where Dwight Freeney will be playing in 2016, and one possible destination is with the Cincinnati Bengals.

According to Cole Harvey of ESPN.com, Dwight Freeney will be going for a workout with the Cincinnati Bengals this week with the hopes of landing another contract. The Bengals could use some depth for their pass-rush, and Freeney was able to have a surprisingly great season last year for the Arizona Cardinals.

After two disappointing seasons with the San Diego Chargers, Freeney was able to be one of the best midseason additions of any team last season. In 11 games with the Cardinals, Freeney was able to total eight sacks, which was more than his previous two seasons combined.

Injuries have always been an issue for Freeney, as he was once one of the most feared pass-rushers in the league when he played for the Indianapolis Colts. In 11 seasons with the Colts, Freeney totaled 107.5 sacks, and while the Bengals won’t be getting that same explosive Freeney, they would be getting a smart veteran who would give them some very nice depth.

If he does sign with the Bengals, Freeney would likely be limited to just certain packages, as his recent move to linebacker wouldn’t set him up for success in their normal 4-3 defense. At 36-years-old, Freeney isn’t looking to be an every-down player anymore, but he showed last year that he can still be a disruptive force as a pass-rusher.

The goal for Freeney is to sign with a winning team, and the Bengals have certainly been one of the more consistent teams in making the playoffs every year. The addition of Freeney might help contribute to them being able to get over the hump in the playoffs, as a great pass-rusher is a valuable tool.
