These 14 players rank among the best in tennis history, but were unable to win a title at Roland Garros throughout their storied careers.

Many tennis experts regard the French Open as the toughest of the four Grand Slam tournaments, beating out Wimbledon, the US Open and the Australian Open. That has been proven throughout history, as some of the greatest to ever play the sport have failed to win the championship at Roland Garros.

Action at the 2016 French Open is already under way, with the start of the early rounds coming on Saturday. The best players in the world will battle it out on the famous red clay of Roland Garros until the women’s final on June 4 and the men’s final on June 5.

One look at the current field will show just how difficult it is to win in Paris. Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, currently ranked as the top two men’s singles players in the world, are yet to win a French Open title.

As the French Open is the only remaining Major played on clay, it requires a special skill set to be successful. Just seven men and ten women have completed the career Grand Slam, with many missing the French Open as the final piece. Recent players on the male side have been blocked by Rafael Nadal, who has mastered the physical and athletic style on the clay to win nine of the last 11 French Opens.

These 14 legends are the best in tennis history to never win a singles title at Roland Garros.
