The Arizona Diamondbacks will be placing the struggling Shelby Miller on the disabled list with a finger injury.

It has been a disappointing season for Shelby Miller of the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the right-hander will now be heading to the disabled list as a result of a finger injury suffered last month. Miller has been struggling in his first season with the Diamondbacks, as he hasn’t pitched even close to his capabilities this season.

After a very good season with the Atlanta Braves in 2015, Miller was one of the key acquisitions in a busy offseason for the Diamondbacks, as the hope was that he and Zack Greinke would be a lethal 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation.

So far in 2016, however, Miller is pitching the worst we have seen in his short career. This season, Miller has a 1-6 record, 7.09 ERA, 1.86 WHIP, and has allowed 10 home runs in 45 innings. Compared to last season, Miller had a 3.09 ERA and only allowed 13 home runs all season.

At just 25-years-old, Miller has thrown a lot of innings already in his career, totaling more than 170 innings pitched the last three seasons. Miller hasn’t been the only starting pitcher on the Diamondbacks that has struggled this season, as every starter has an ERA over 4.00, and even Greinke has struggled to find his rhythm.

The Diamondbacks will need Miller to get healthy and right when he is on the 15-day DL if they are going to turn it around this season, as they have dug themselves into quite a hole.
