Taking a look at the Oxford Regional now that it’s been set for the 2016 NCAA Baseball Tournament

The SEC set a conference record in the 2016 NCAA Baseball Tournament as seven teams out of the conference were chosen as regional hosts. That’s not surprising when you consider teams like Vanderbilt, LSU, and of course Florida and others as well. However, one of the hosts that might’ve been at least slightly surprising was the Ole Miss Rebels. Though they had a great season, they didn’t have the pedigree as some other programs. Even still, they were selected to host the Oxford Regional.

Given that Ole Miss wasn’t selected for one of the eight top national seeds, though, they had to expect that they’d be put up against it in a noticeable way in the Oxford Region with some difficult potential matchups looming. That certainly played out when it was revealed that they would be paired with the Coral Gables Regional for a potential date with a lethal Miami team. So that left just the reveal of the Oxford Regional to paint the road through the NCAA Baseball Tournament for the Rebels.

Here’s a look at the Oxford Regional:

All things considered, this isn’t as bad as it could have been for Ole Miss in terms of difficulty. Though Utah is out of a power conference as a champion in the Pac-12, they were lackluster for much of the season and could falter easily. It won’t be a cakewalk, but the stage is set for the Rebels to win at home and potentially face Miami in the Super Regionals.
