Presidential candidate Donald Trump wants sports stars like Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger to speak on his behalf at the GOP Convention

Hopefully, you’re sitting down this one, but U.S. Presidential candidate Donald Trump wants to do things a little differently at the Republican National Convention.

Instead of having other politicians get on the stage and sound the horn for his ability as a political leader, Trump wants to reach out to sports stars instead.

"“We’re going to do it a little different, if it’s O.K.,” Trump said per the NY Times. “I’m thinking about getting some of the great sports people who like me a lot.”"

Sports stars that Trump targeted to endorse him include former NCAA coach Bobby Knight, UFC president Dana White and NFL quarterbacks Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger. Trump called these guys all “champions” saying he likes winners.

That thinking may be true, but Trump may also want to reconsider the group he is attempting to put together as each has their own baggage as speakers.

Knight choked one of his student athletes in 1997 while at Indiana, Brady is currently facing a four-game suspension for allegedly cheating, Roethlisberger has twice been accused of sexual assault and Dana White recently banned a reporter from UFC for breaking news before his company did.

It will be interesting to see if Trump ends up reaching out to any supporters who don’t have sordid pasts.
