While some associated with Baylor University have argued for eventually reinstating Art Briles as football coach, a reported vote did not occur on Monday.

The Baylor Bears’ sexual assault scandal has been an ugly incident in college football that just keeps getting worse. While the rampant sexual assault allegations involving the university and its Power 5 football team continue to add up, some involved with the university just don’t realize that head coach Art Briles can’t come back and coach their football team again.

Some had argued that a one-year suspension of Briles might suffice to appease the NCAA in their continuing investigation of the school, but that tone-deaf sentiment seems to echo that Baylor truly doesn’t understand the magnitude of these consequences. There have been talks of a Death Penalty possibly being on the table if Baylor doesn’t proactively choose to eradicate its program of perpetual wrongdoing.

Contrary to what was initially reported, ESPN’s Mark Schlabach reports that Baylor thankfully did not vote on Briles’ status as head coach, leaving the possibility of a return in 2017 after the one-year stint of interim head coach Jim Grobe.

Even though a vote didn’t occur, the discussion of even considering having one is disturbing. Briles may have been the winningest head coach in Baylor football history, but the runaway train program he was running the last eight years simply cannot continue.

Baylor is walking on thin ice here with regards to the amount of sanctions its top 25 football team might endure the next few years. Top high school recruits don’t want to go anywhere near this toxic situation in Waco. To think people were even considering bringing back Briles after all that has transpired in the last few weeks is borderline unfathomable.
