Clemson students who wish to have good seats for their football team’s home games this season will not be forced to pay for them.

In the past, Clemson University has made all seats free for students, assigning tickets on a signup basis. The administration proposed to make lower level tickets cost the students $225 for the season, and would guarantee them great seats. The proposal also called for upper deck seats to remain free.

While there is probably a fair share of students who would gladly pay for the better seats, the student body felt that this was discriminatory towards socioeconomic status.

Charging students for tickets is not out of the ordinary. In fact, Clemson is the only team in the ACC, Big 12, or SEC that does not charge students an athletic fee to attend football or basketball games.

The proposal was eventually tabled, meaning seats will be assigned and will remain free throughout the stadium.

Memorial Stadium, or Death Valley as it is called, is already one of the hardest places to play in college football. The Clemson fans come out in droves every game, and assuring the students will be front and center will only help the Tigers this season.

The 2016 football season will be one with high expectations for the Clemson Tigers, who have been ranked as high as No. 4 in the country coming into the season. The team returns quarterback DeShaun Watson, who should be in for a huge season after leading Clemson to the National Championship Game last year and finishing third in the Heisman.

The team fell just short of the national title game last season, and head coach Dabo Swinney will be looking to build on the growth made last season. The biggest game of the season should be their trip to Florida State on October 29 to face the Seminoles in a game that should decide the ACC Atlantic.
