Here is a list of every Tour de France winner in history.

The 2016 Tour de France is just a day away and that means that another cyclist will have their chance to write their way into the history books by winning the event. The cyclist wearing the yellow jersey at the end of the event will be remembered forever.

The Tour de France has produced some of the greatest athletic legends of all time and the most times a cyclist has won it has been five times, which four different riders have done in their career.

Lance Armstrong briefly held the record with 7 tour wins, but because of his involvement in doping, he has been stripped of all achievements and his records that seemed incredible at one time no longer stand.

Still, the sport has seen some incredible moments and some incredible stages over its history. With 2016 guaranteed to produce yet another winner and potentially a repeat champion, it will be interesting to see how the various cyclists navigate the different stages in the event.

With the tour set to begin on Saturday, here is a list of every Tour de France winner in history.
