The Brooklyn Nets have reportedly set up a meeting with free agent point guard Brandon Jennings in 2016 NBA free agency

It’d be a mistake to say that the Brooklyn Nets are anything but depressing at this point in time. They are still dealing with the horrific after effects of the trade for Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce and are thus left as a lottery team with no draft picks trying to stay even remotely relevant. That makes 2016 NBA free agency when they have some cap room all the more important and they’re already trying to bolster their backcourt depth.

According to a report from ESPN’s Chris Broussard, the Nets have already set up a meeting with former Orlando Magic point guard Brandon Jennings on Friday morning at UCLA:

This would be an interesting match between team and player for a number of reasons if the Nets were to be able to get anything done.

For one, the Nets just waived veteran point guard Jarrett Jack right before the beginning of NBA free agency, so going for a bit younger of a player at the position in Jennings would ultimately make sense.

However, the Nets would be taking a bit of a risk when it comes to Jennings. Though the guard finished the year healthy after being traded to the Orlando Magic, he’s still seemingly recovering from an Achilles tear that he suffered while with the Detroit Pistons that caused him to miss the start of last year.

This is the type of mid-to-low-level move the Nets need to be at least exploring, though, if they want to gradually improve. Therefore, this is a nice sign for Brooklyn initially.
