Rudy Gay has spent the last two and a half seasons with the Sacramento Kings, but his time in Sacramento may be coming to an end.

Rudy Gay has found a home in Sacramento, starting 192 of the 193 games he has played for the organization since coming over in December of the 2013-14 season. Gay has averaged nearly 20 points per contest with the Kings, while averaging six rebounds a game.

In November of 2014, he signed a three-year contract extension with the team, which includes an opt-out clause for the 2017-18 season. However, as the team heads into the 2016-17 season, news around the team is that he may be on his way out.

According to Jason Jones, the Kings’ writer for the Sacramento Bee, there is a growing rumor that the Kings will try to trade Gay this off-season.

This will not be the first time Gay has been traded in his career, in fact, it will be his third. The forward was drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the 2006 draft out of the University of Connecticut. He was traded to the Toronto Raptors in 2013, though he only played in 51 games for the team across two seasons.

On December 9, 2013, the Raptors traded Gay, along with Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray, to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Greivis Vásquez, John Salmons, Chuck Hayes and Patrick Patterson.

There are plenty of teams out there who would love to have a player like Gay, who in contrast to some of the contracts being given this off-season, could come fairly cheap. Gay is a proven scorer in the league, and at 29-years old, could still be a solid piece to a team in the running for a championship.
