According to TSN’s Frank Seravalli, the Philadelphia Flyers have emerged as the favorite to sign free agent forward Dale Weise.

Dale Weise is getting interest from a number of teams in free agency. According to TSN’s Frank Seravalli, Weise has narrowed his search down to three teams and the Philadelphia Flyers are considered to be the favorite.

The Montreal Canadiens have also been heavily linked to Weise. Weise has spent his career split between the New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks, Montreal Canadiens, and Chicago Blackhawks. He had a strong season last year with the Canadiens and Blackhawks, scoring a career-high 14 goals and 27 points. Weise had 14 goals and 12 assists for 26 points with the Canadiens, though he had just one assist in 15 games with the Chicago Blackhawks.

While Weise should add some speed and energy to the Flyers’ third or fourth line, he will most likely come at a pretty expensive price. The Flyers definitely need some help adding some scoring to their bottom six, so Weise is definitely a fit with Philadelphia. They certainly have the cap space to overpay him a little bit, but there are better options out there than Weise.

Weise should help the Flyers improve their penalty kill, which ranked among the league’s worst last season. Their penalty kill was especially exposed in the first round of the playoffs against the Washington Capitals.
