An NBA Summer League 2016 contest featuring the Lakers vs. Sixers got off to a sloppy start with turnovers from top picks Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram.

In NBA Summer League 2016 action, the Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers got off to a rough start Saturday. While the game was a showcase of the top two picks from the 2016 NBA Draft, both players were part of a sloppy start to what was heralded as an early “must see” game. Both No. 1 pick Ben Simmons of the Sixers and No. 2 pick Brandon Ingram of the Lakers showed that they have plenty of early jitters and room for improvement.

The two rookies were head-to-head for the first time in their pro careers, albeit not during a regular season game. With a bit over six minutes left in the first quarter of their game in Vegas, Ingram tried for a quick layup, only to knock down one of his Philadelphia opponents and lose the ball to Simmons.

From there, the top draft pick took the ball down to the other end of the court himself and attempted to put a fancy move on the Sixers’ Marc Zumoff. While the fake-out was pretty, Simmons’ brick shot wasn’t as glamorous. Moments later, the highly-touted rookie out of LSU got a sweet dish from his teammate and tried to glide to the hoop for an easy layup. However, Simmons would miss on that slick move as well.

The early jitters are certainly there, but both these players are sure to be featured in much more worthy highlight clips as they progress this coming NBA season.
