The newest issue of Marvel’s Civil War II will feature the death of a major character and the killer is almost more of a shock.

Note: This post contains massive spoilers for the latest issue of Marvel’s Civil War II.

Just as Marvel fans are coming to grips with the shocking Captain America is Hydra twist, another shock is headed their way in the newest issue of Civil War II.

OK, one final spoiler warning!

Bruce Banner is dead.

Yes the character that has been a part of Marvel comics since 1962 is not going to survive issue #3 of Civil War II. Adding to the shock value is that his death is caused by an arrow from Hawkeye’s bow. Needless to say, this is a shocking twist that will impact the Marvel universe for a while.

As Marvel Editor in Chief Axel Alonso told the Daily News: ““This is uncharted territory for us. Only two things are for certain: it will take a long, long time for our heroes to come to terms with his loss, and the circumstance surrounding his death will leave a huge scar on the superhero community.”

Adding to the heartbreak of the situation is that Hawkeye killing Bruce was a misunderstanding. The two made a pact that in order to save the world, if Bruce ever looker like he was getting angry enough to hulk out — which would now lead to Bruce blowing up the world — Hawkeye was supposed to stop him with a special arrow. So when Bruce starts getting angry, Hawkeye shoots.

Only Bruce had developed a medication to keep the Hulk at bay and it had been working for the past year.

For fans worried that this will be the end of the Hulk, fear not, there is already another Hulk in the Marvel universe, Amadeus Cho. This teen genius saved Bruce Banner and the world when Bruce was about to blow up the world because he absorbed too much radiation. Amadeus finds a way to lower the radiation levels saving the world, but the side effect is that he must absorb the excess radiation, and he is transformed into the new Hulk. He headlines the Totally Awesome Hulk series and will be part of the upcoming teen superhero team, Champions, launching in the fall.

Also, this is the comic book universe where death is hardly ever permanent, especially if you are a main character. Steve Rogers was killed at the end of the first Civil War event paving the way for Sam Wilson to take up Captain America’s shield. Now Steve is back from the grave, and both he and Sam use the Captain America title.

Spider-Man has also spent some time in the grave when Peter Parker was killed off in the Ultimate universe, which led to Miles Morales becoming Spider-Man. On the DC side of things, the world was shocked when Superman died at the hands of Doomsday in 1992, but he came back soon after.

The question now is how long Bruce Banner will stay dead? Civil War II writer Brian Michael Bendis is not giving away any sort of hints, but it will definitely stick for a while.

"Right now I can tell you this is the real deal. I can’t speak for the future, I honestly can’t, who knows what will happen? But I already have plans for the body (in upcoming issues)."

Issue #3 of Civil War II came out on Wednesday, and keep reading future issues to find out how the Marvel universe reacts to this shocking twist.
