After spending three years away from the NBA, Richard Hamilton has publicly stated that he is training for a comeback.

With so much money being available in the NBA thanks to a record breaking rise in the salary cap, several former players have been expressing interesting in returning to the league. Thus far, we have seen Ray Allen and Stephen Jackson attempting to make their returns. The latest person to join that list is Hamilton.

Hamilton told CBS Sports that his agent has started contacting teams in the NBA to see if they would be interested in adding the 6-foot-7 guard to their roster. Though he is no longer in his physical prime, Hamilton does bring veteran savvy and outside shooting.

It will be interesting to see if Hamilton can be effective in the NBA nowadays. During his prime, he was known as someone who would tirelessly go through countless screens in order to get open shots. At 38 years of age, it might not be as easy for the former Detroit Pistons guard to create those opportunities for himself.

Hamilton has told the media that he is giving himself a month of training to see if his body can handle another season in the NBA. If his agent does not find a team that is interested in offering a contract, then Hamilton can save face by stating that his body simply was not ready for a comeback.

Due to his age, many would assume that Hamilton was coming back to the NBA to chase another championship ring. However, the former Connecticut star has already stated that he wants to come back simply to play basketball. It is not about money or titles.

That’s a stark contrast from Allen, who is interested in acquiring another NBA Championship ring. That’s why the former Boston Celtics star is targeting the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers as potential landing spots. Those are the two favorites to return to the Finals next season.
