With the trade deadline getting closer in Major League Baseball, Boston Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz thinks he will be traded by the team soon.

At one point, Clay Buchholz was going to be the next great starter for the Boston Red Sox. After two All-Star Game appearances and two World Series titles, Buchholz has found out how the other half lives during the 2016 season.

With a record of just 3-9 this season and an ERA close to six (5.94), Buchholz has been demoted from the rotation to mop up duty and has made just two appearances since July 2. According to the pitcher himself (in an interview with WEEI radio in Boston), he won’t be pitching in a Red Sox uniform much longer:

"“If this is the way the team is going to be as far as the rotation part of it … I feel like the guys they’re rolling out there, I don’t have a spot. I’m the odd man out.”“Not having pitched in a while I felt like something has be going on. I’m just trying to stay as sharp as I can and that’s why I’ve been throwing on the side. I have to stay somewhat stretched out.”"

If Buchholz is moved to a new team, he could still end up winning with a solid final two months of the season. He has a team option in his contract that would allow him to get paid nearly $14 million next year if picked up, while he could become a free agent as well and sign for even more if he goes to a team who can’t afford that.
