Dallas Cowboys draft pick Ezekiel Elliott tweeted out his first comments since being accused of assaulting a former girlfriend.

Friday was not only Ezekiel Elliott’s 21st birthday, he was accused of domestic violence by a former girlfriend from college.

Both Elliott’s father and former Cowboys great Michael Irvin came to the defense of Elliott and both said that Elliott hadn’t committed any crime towards the woman.

Elliott made his first comments since the allegations with a short, but strong tweet to express his displeasure with the news.

Those are some impactful and confident words. Elliott and those around him truly believe that he has done nothing wrong and will look to whatever they have to do to fully clear Elliott’s name of any wrongdoing.

Until we receive more details around the situation, the phrase “innocent until proven guilty” is presentable. Elliott’s a promising NFL star and a top-10 pick from this year’s draft by the Cowboys. It would be a shame to see a pro career hampered by a domestic violence charge before he even plays a down in the NFL.

But, domestic violence is a serious matter and should absolutely not be taken lightly by the NFL if Elliott did actually assault the young woman. He’ll only face criminal charges if a jury finds without reasonable doubt that Elliott assaulted the woman.

The NFL could also step in and conduct an investigation around Elliott’s situation, which would be a similar situation that led to former Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy being suspended for the first 10 games of the 2015 season for physically assaulting a former girlfriend.

For now, it’s best to hold off on a set opinion of Elliott until all of the details are presented to the public and the situation has reached a full conclusion.
