According to Jon Heyman, the New York Yankees are not ready to start selling as they have started the second half on a good note.

Before the second half began, everybody expected that the New York Yankees would be sellers at the 2016 MLB trade deadline. However, after starting the second half with series wins over the Baltimore Orioles and San Francisco Giants, owner Hal Steinbrenner is not ready to start selling yet.

Steinbrenner would be very wise to give the front office authorization to start trading their top guys. Realistically, they’re not catching the Orioles or the Red Sox. It would be a huge stretch for them to catch even the Houston Astros or Toronto Blue Jays, who are expected to compete for the second wild card spot.

The Yankees are currently where they are because their team has refused to rebuild the right way. Perhaps it is time for them to start doing so. They could get a huge haul for Aroldis Chapman. Mark Teixeira could be an intriguing addition to several contenders as well. Carlos Beltran could net New York a significant haul, though not nearly as big as the one that Chapman would. Andrew Miller could net the team some much needed top-tier prospects.

Hal Steinbrenner has sadly been nothing like his father George. George Steinbrenner was a man obsessed with winning. Unlike Hal, he knew how to do it as well. If the Yanks don’t sell at the 2016 trade deadline, that could haunt them for years.
