Taking a look at when the New York Jets will begin their training camp

The New York Jets had a fairly successful season in 2016. Led by a dominant defensive line and a pleasantly competent and consistent offensive attack, they surprised a lot of people by nearly making the playoffs. If the Jets want to make the playoffs in 2016, they won’t be able to rely on the element of surprise like last season because now everyone knows how dangerous the Jets can be.

Once again, the Jets will rely heavily on their defense. Led by Muhammed Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson, Marcus Williams, and Darrelle Revis, the Jets’ defense consistently dominated opponents and made things a lot easier for their offense. Their offense will have to step it up and it looks like they will have to do it without quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is still a free agent.

It appears that Geno Smith will be the starter going into training camp unless the Jets re-sign Fitzpatrick. Smith will have a variety of weapons at his disposal with wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. Free agent signing Matt Forte should help Smith as well, giving him a strong receiving option out of the backfield.

The Jets will open training camp on Wednesday July 27. Both rookies and veterans will report to training camp at that time. The Jets will hold training camp at Atlantic Health Jets Training Center in Florham Park, New Jersey. With the New England Patriots losing quarterback Tom Brady for the first four games, a division title is possible, but still unlikely, for the Jets.
