In the latest NBA rumors, Derrick Rose may miss games for his new team after a recent motion was denied in his sexual assault case which would have dismissed the case.

Derrick Rose, the newest member of a hopefully New York Knicks squad, may miss parts of training camp and games due to his upcoming trial. Rose and his legal team saw a critical motion denied in his pending sexual assault case. That motion would have given a summary judgment in the case, basically dismissing it.

The ongoing case is due to a sexual assault incident that was alleged to have occurred on Aug. 27, 2013. The recently dismissed motion for summary judgment had been filed by Rose’s legal team as they said it was unclear if the accuser had consented to sex.

On Friday, ESPN reported that Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald wrote in his response, “There can be no doubt that genuine disputes exist as to almost every material fact in this action.”

Now that the motion has been dismissed, the trial seems like it may go forth with a scheduled date of Oct. 4 in Los Angeles. The Knicks will have training camp and then preseason games right near that date. A lengthy trial could impact Rose and his new team based on the fact he might have to commute back and forth from California to participate in the Knicks’ practices and games.

This brings up quick comparisons to another situation involving recently-retired NBA star Kobe Bryant, who had a sexual assault incident in 2003 and resulting trial that took place in Colorado. The charges were eventually dismissed against Bryant when the trial was finished nearly a year later.
