Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III pulled up to training camp in what is likely a 1992 Volkswagen Passat VR6.

Robert Griffin III was supposed to be the Washington Redskins quarterback for the next decade. Instead, he will open up his fourth season in the NFL as a member of the Cleveland Browns, and he will have the chance to win the starting nod in training camp.

Griffin showed up at camp on Tuesday with a new ride, but it was not the kind of car you would expect a man who just signed for $22 million to drive. He pulled up to camp in a Volkswagen Passat VR6, though the year is not clear. That model of Passat ran from 1992-1994, so the car is at least 22 years old.

The quarterback is going to earn $6.75 million in guaranteed money, so he could at least have sprung for a 2015 Volkswagen. While it is almost a certainty that this is not the only ride in his stable, he seems to be pretty proud of this one in the picture above.

The Browns are hoping that Griffin can resurrect his career in Cleveland, as he has gotten most of the first-team reps early in camp. He is battling Josh McCown for the starting job, and both quarterbacks are most likely very excited to have wide receiver Josh Gordon back from suspension.

In 2015, the Browns started three different quarterbacks throughout the season, as Johnny Manziel, Austin Davis, and McCown all got reps as the team’s starter. New head coach Hue Jackson is hoping to name a starter early in camp, and Griffin appears slated to be that guy.

The Browns open their 2016 regular season on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 11.
