Looking at many sports throughout the 2016 Rio Olympics, you see a blend of skills and traits that it takes to be successful. And while Olympics women’s weightlifting isn’t singular in the skills that it takes to win, there’s no event or competition that demands the raw power it takes to succeed in weightlifting. On Saturday, August 6, the first medal event in Olympics women’s weightlifting will be held.

Olympics women’s weightlifting and weightlifting in Rio as a whole will get underway on Saturday evening with the Women’s 48 kg Group A medal competition.

There will be 15 competitors in the 48 kg (106 pounds) event and it looks as if Chinese Olympian Hou Zhihui is in the driver’s seat to take home the gold. However, don’t rule out Hiromi Miyake of Japan, Sopita Tanasan of Thailand, or even first-time Olympian Morghan King from Team USA as they could all be vying for spots on the podium as well. What’s great about Olympics women’s weightlifting or weightlifting in general, though, is that it could be anyone’s day when it’s all said and done.

The Women’s 48 kg competition in the Olympics weightlifting event will be part of the replay broadcast at 8 p.m. ET on NBCSN. However, you can live stream the competition on NBCOlympics.com or through the NBC Sports app.
