There has been a lot of talk as of late about what the New York Yankees might do with Alex Rodriguez. Well, we might be finding out an answer soon enough. He and the team have scheduled a press conference for Sunday morning.

As we saw with the trade deadline that just past, the Yankees are definitely in a place where they are looking to rebuild their franchise with younger talent and prospects. Of course, for as great as he has been over the course of his career at times, Rodriguez at his age simply doesn’t fit those plans.

There was really no way the team could trade him, so that has led to some whispers that they could release the star slugger, despite the enormous money tied to his contract.

Rodriguez came to the Yankees in 2004 in a deal with the Texas Rangers, and he helped lead the team to a World Series victory in 2009. He missed the entirety of the 2014 season while serving a PED suspension.

At the moment, it’s not guaranteed that the team will announce a release on Sunday when they meet with the media, but after all of the talk lately, it certainly seems like it’s a good bet that’s what might take place.

This season, Rodriguez is hitting just .204 in 62 games played with just nine home runs and 29 runs driven in.
