MEDAL RESULT | Women's 3m Synchronized Springboard

On Sunday, eight countries headed to the pool for the Women’s 3m SyncHronized Springboard competition, though the favorite to win was a heavy one. China’s team of Wu Minxia and Shi Tingmao were supposed to win the gold in the event, and they certainly did, with a resounding performance.

With the win, Minxia became the first five-time Olympic diving gold medalist, as her and Timgmao’s score of 345.60 destroyed silver-medalist Italy’s score of 313.83. The Italian team of Tania Cagnotto and Francesca Dallape were expected to perform well, and they won the silver by a wide margin over Australia, who took the bronze.

The Australian team of Maddison Keeney and Annabelle Smith scored 299.19, edging out Canada for the bronze.

The Chinese diving team is expected to win most of the gold medals during the 2016 Rio Olympics, and they got off to a great start on Sunday. The team scored over 80.00 points in both rounds 4 and 5 to blow away the competition. No other country scored more than 74 points in any round.

On Monday, the men take to the pool for some synchronized diving, though it will be in the 10m competition. During the 2012 London Olympics, the Chinese team of Zhang Yanquan and Cao Yuan took home the gold medal in the 10m, and despite a brand new team in Rio, China is once again expected to take the gold.

The United States will have David Boudia back in action during the 2016 Olympics, after teaming with Nick McCrory to take the silver in 2012. Boudia will have a new partner in Steele Johnson, and they are expected to battle for at least a bronze.
