France undoubtedly looked at the 2016 Rio Olympics men’s basketball competition and had to think that they could run through the field and compete to win a medal. No matter what they thought, though, they performed horribly in their first preliminary round contest. Now they have to try and get back on the right track as they take on China on Monday night to close out the hoops action for the day.

Tony Parker and France came out of the gate in their competition opening matchup against Australia completely flat. Parker wasn’t aggressive enough from start to finish while the likes of Boris Diaw, Nicolas Batum, and others just seemed to lack any noticeable passion.

Meanwhile, China was on the wrong end of playing USA Basketball to start their Olympics men’s basketball run. Because the United States blew them out so terribly, no one can totally say with certainty what to expect from China. Playing France on Monday will be a great way to find out, though.
