Gotham will explore Harley Quinn’s story in future seasons

Harley Quinn is a hot commodity in every aspect of the DC Universe, and now Gotham producers want to bring her to Gotham in the near future.

Next: Fox might bring back The X-Files

Gotham producers want fans to know that Harley Quinn will be introduced on the FOX television series at some point. Executive producer John Stephens revealed during the Television Critics Association press tour that Harley Quinn’s origins will be explored “perhaps not this season, but in times to come.”

Regardless of the critics’ reviews of Suicide Squad, one thing was universally accepted: Margot Robbie’s performance as Harley Quinn was amazing. Even before Suicide Squad was on the horizon, Harley Quinn has been garnering a huge fan base of girls and women who cosplay as the often misunderstood villain and sometimes heroine.

Harley Quinn was not an original DC Comics character. She made her first appearance in Batman:The Animated Series where she was voiced by the inimitable Arlene Sorkin, who kept pace with Mark Hamill’s incomparable Joker.

It makes sense that Gotham producers want to capitalize on Harley Quinn’s mass appeal. Ever since her inception, she has been growing in popularity, spawning her own comic series from DC Comics legends Jimmy Palmiotti, Amanda Conner and Chad Hardin. Cameron Monaghan famously portrayed what many thought was the early version of the Joker on the show. Jerome, the troubled young man who becomes a homicidal maniac, shares many characteristics with the Joker, but producers won’t reveal whether or not Jerome becomes the Joker. The Joker’s back story, they say, has been building since the first season whether viewers realize it or not.

The addition of Harley Quinn would make an interesting story arc on Gotham considering that her alter ego, Dr. Harleen Quinzel, is a brilliant psychiatrist. Would she be at Arkham? Would fans see how Joker turns her into Harley Quinn?
