Olympics Men’s Basketball: Argentina vs Brazil

It’s certainly coming down to the wire in the Olympics men’s basketball competition from Rio 2016. Entering Day 8 on Saturday, August 13, there are only three days of games left on the docket. While there’s plenty of jockeying for position in the group standings left, there are also great matchups. Tipping off Saturday’s action will be one of those matchups. Argentina and Brazil prepare to do battle in a titanic South American clash out of Group B.

For starters, Argentina sit only one point out first place in Group B coming into this game. As such, they aren’t scrambling for position by any means. However, they would like to solidify their position going into their final game. More than that, earning a victory over a continental rival in Brazil would certainly feel good also. Therefore, expect Manu Ginobili and Luis Scola to come into the fold on Saturday playing to win.

Brazil, on the other hand, are in a bit worse position. If the Olympics men’s basketball competition ended before Saturday’s game, the host nation would be eliminated. Luckily, though, they’ll get two more chances to get rolling. While they haven’t been playing to top form, they undoubtedly have the talent to succeed. Marcelo Huertas, Leandro Barbosa, Nene, and everyone all can play at a high level every time out. The big key for this Brazil team, though, is to make sure they’re ready to compete for 40 minutes. Subsequently, that’ll be what to watch for Saturday.
