With just about a week left at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, track cycling is among the remaining events with medals up for grabs. On Monday, August 15, at least one medal event will take place. Several other races will be held to move events forwards towards the medal rounds.
The events will begin as early as 9 a.m. Eastern Time on Monday with the Women’s sprint Round of 16 taking place. At 9:21 a.m. ET the Men’s omnium time trial goes off, with the Women’s omnium scratch race going at 9:59 a.m. ET. However, it will be the afternoon or early evening race that has many spectators interested in seeing who wins the gold medal.
On Monday beginning at 12 p.m. Eastern Time, MSNBC will televise at least one hour of events in track cycling. Starting at 4 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network will provide the coverage of the men’s omnium points race to determine medalists. The event will take place at the Rio Olympic Velodrome at approximately 4:23 p.m. ET with participants to be announced before the competition.
On Sunday, Jason Kenny of Great Britain snatched the gold medal win in the men’s sprint while his fellow countryman Callum Skinner took the silver. Denis Dmitriev of Russia took home the bronze medal in the event.
So far in the Rio track cycling events, Great Britain leads all nations with four gold and two silver for a total of six medals overall. The United States has one silver medal, while China and Netherlands each have one gold.
