Olympic show jumping live stream: Watch online – August 17
Live stream info and how to watch Olympic show jumping online on Wednesday, August 17.
Day 2 of the team Olympic show jumping will determine the medal winners in the team competition. The top eight teams from Tuesday will jump today and the top individuals not on one of those teams will go forward. Individuals’ overall scores on Wednesday will be used to select the top 35 riders to go on to the individual jumping competition.
NBC Sports’ unprecedented coverage of the Rio Olympics’ equestrian competition brings the viewer straight to Rio. Choreographed camera work follows horses from the beginning of the course though to the finish times.
The course is set to ride at 400 meters per minute. Time overages are penalized at one fault per four seconds. There is no benefit to finishing the course ultra-fast. A rail down or stepping on the water jump’s tape are four faults. A horse that refuses to go over a jump gets four faults; if it refuses a second time, it is eliminated. A rider or horse falling results in elimination as well.
What to look for:
Team USA — Kent Farrington on Voyeur, Lucy Davis on Barron, McLain Ward on Azur, Beezie (Elizabeth) Madden on Cortes C, — are tied for first place with the Netherlands, Brazil and Germany. The U.S. is looking to take back the team jumping gold it relinquished in the 2102 London Olympics.
The Brazilian team is performing beyond expectations. Former U.S. Chef d’Equipe George Morris is now training the Brazilians, and it shows. The riders are poised and accurate and the horses responsive and scopey. Well, aside from their team member who somersaulted over his horse’s head when it stopped on Sunday… Morris has done an exemplary job in bring the Brazilian team to peak when it counts.
The German jumping team is synonymous with Olympic medals. Their country’s program has depth and brings along talented horses and riders like no other. Except maybe the Netherlands which has become the go-to market for purchasing jumper prospects and for Americans to visit to train with their elite coaches.
