The defending NFC North champions kick off the season in Nashville as Mike Zimmer’s Minnesota Vikings travel south to take on the Tennessee Titans.
The Purple Gang finished 11-5 a year ago and won their first division title since 2009. They take on a club that has won a combined five games the past two seasons. But Titans head coach Mike Mularkey is hoping second-year quarterback Marcus Mariota take a step forward this season and he will now have the luxury of a talented two-headed rushing attack in DeMarco Murray and rookie Derrick Henry.
As for the Vikings, it’s been odd week or so. They lost starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater for the season to a knee injury. But just when it looked like Shaun Hill would get the start this Sunday, general manager Rick Spielman gave up a first-round pick in 2017 and a conditional fourth-round selection in ’18 to obtain Sam Bradford from the Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaking of ground attacks, Minnesota has a pretty good one themselves in the form of 2015 NFL rushing leader Adrian Peterson. With the team’s quarterback situation somewhat up in the air, look for Zimmer and offensive coordinator Norv Turner to keep the veteran performer busy all afternoon.

It makes for a very intriguing contest in Nashville this weekend as Tennessee plays host to this interconference series for the first time since 2008 – ironically the last time the Titans reached the playoffs.
