Heading into a matchup with the Big Ten’s Illinois Fighting Illini in Champaign, North Carolina has to be a little worried. While the Tar Heels’ opening week loss to No. 18 Georgia wasn’t exactly an embarrassment, it was a chance to prove they belonged in the playoff conversation.

However, North Carolina allowed over 470 yards of total offense to a team led by a true freshman quarterback and running back coming off a major knee injury. The Heels allowed Nick Chubb to rush for 222 yards and two touchdowns. Heck, they let the Bulldogs averaged over five yards per carry as a team.

Maybe it was the fact that it was Mitch Trubisky’s first start at quarterback for the Tar Heels that cost North Carolina the game later on. Georgia shut the Tar Heels out in the fourth quarter after they had a 24-23 lead and took the opening week win, 33-24.

Trubisky has the talent to lead this team to another 10-win year, but he’s still getting adjusted to being the full-time starter. Plus, if North Carolina’s defense struggles yet again with Illinois on the road, which is very possible, the Tar Heels will be in danger of a 0-2 start to 2016.

Illinois’ Wes Lunt is a talented, experienced passer and the run game excelled in week one. Bad news for the Tar Heels at that spotty defense.
