Rex Ryan had lap band surgery in 2010. It went well, and he lost over 100 pounds. So why is he putting the pounds back on?

When two people are extremely close, they are said to be joined at the hip. Rex Ryan and his brother Rob are not joined at the hip. Instead, they appear to be joined at the stomach.

In a show of solidarity, Rex has had his lap band removed to support his brother whose device nearly killed him after it got too tight. Admittedly, Rob may have been to blame for his own lap band’s failure.

“I put on 30 pounds in a month. Now I can’t get [the lap band] off,” Rob explained to the NY Post. He had lost over 60 pounds while working for the Dallas Cowboys. “And then my band was so tight, I almost died. … It was so tight, my esophagus was working as my stomach.

“All you can eat is sugar, and I drink the hell out of wine. But that’s all I could really eat and drink, so I was getting enormous again.”

It seems that Rob Ryan missed the entire point of lap band surgery, but Rex is going to help him as they strive to figure out their weight issues together.

“I told him, we’ll figure this out together (without the Lap Band),” Ryan said. “Plus, I won more games without it than did with it in.”

Since hiring his brother to work as his defensive coordinator in January, Rex has already gained 30 pounds. He had maxed out at 348 pounds in January 2010 before electing to have the surgery and losing over 100 pounds.

Without the constraints of their lap bands, it appears the Ryan brothers are ready to run roughshod through all of the best wing spots Buffalo has to offer. If that’s not love, I don’t know what is.
