Matt Forte scores his first touchdown as a Jet vs Bills (Video)
Running back Matt Forte punched in a touchdown from the 1-yard line early in the 2nd quarter.
The New York Jets were able to get their first touchdown of the night thanks to a goal-line score from Matt Forte. This was Forte’s first score as a member of the Jets after he was kept out of the end zone in Week 1 agains the Bengals:
Forte has had very little room to run so far tonight against the Bills’ stingy defensive front. On his 12 attempts thus far he is averaging just 2.7 yards per carry. Head Coach Todd Bowles and the Jets do seem determined to pound the ball on the ground. The Jets sustained two very long and successful drives to start the game, but were only able to come up with a pair of field goals.
Forte is in his first season with the Jets after spending the first eight years of his career with the Chicago Bears who drafted him in 2008 with the 44th overall pick. He is largely known for his dual threat ability as both a runner and a receiver. He set an NFL record back in 2014 for most receptions by a running back in one season with 102.

They may have to rely even more on Forte and the run game due to the injury that was sustained by wide receiver Brandon Marshall earlier in the scoring drive. Marshall was dragged down by a Bills player and his knee was bent very awkwardly. It’s yet to be determined the extent of the injury, but a bigger burden will be placed on other Jets receivers like Eric Decker and Quincy Enunwa. Enunwa has been fantastic so far tonight, catching five balls for a total of 90 yards.
Expect Forte to get in as a receiver even more as the game progresses.
